The French film, which has already won awards, was released Wednesday on Netflix amid backlash for featuring pre-teen girls dancing provocatively, and also including close-up shots of the young girls’ buttocks and crotches.

James P. Bradley, a Republican U.S. House candidate in California, stated on Twitter:
"If you direct 11 year olds to touch themselves on camera, you’re a pedophile."
If you watch 11-year-olds twerk, you’re a pervert.

If you direct 11 year olds to touch themselves on camera, you’re a pedophile.
If you support Netflix making and airing #Cuties, you’re enabling abuse.#CancelNetflix
Republican U.S. House Candidate in California Buzz Patterson also noted the silence of elected officials over the movie 'Cuties.'
Patterson called to #CancelNetflix, a hashtag that has become increasingly widespread following outrage from the film.
Our elected officials are mighty silent on the Cuties movie by Netflix.

Even those running for office, supported by the top tiers of both establishment parties, are silent.
I will never be silent.
Why run just to be silent?#CancelNetflix and their board members.
One scene from the film shows a young girl called Amy, who sporting panties and a tank top, shivering as her mother and great-aunt throw water at her.

The scene shows multiple shots of her buttocks as she writhes and dances on the floor.
The film earned a TV-MA rating, meaning it is targeted at adults.

A petition is currently demanding 'Cuties' is removed from Netflix, which has already garnered 358,537 signatures at the time of writing this article.
The petition reads:
This movie/show is disgusting as it sexualizes an ELEVEN year old for the viewing pleasure of pedophiles and also negatively influences our children! There is no need for this kind of content in that age group, especially when sex trafficking and pedophilia are so rampant!
"Cuties" filmmaker Mainmouna Doucouré told Cineuropa:
"The day I saw, at a neighborhood party, a group of young girls aged around 11 years old, going up on stage and dancing in a very sensual way while wearing very revealing clothes," she said.
"I was rather shocked, and I wondered if they were aware of the image of sexual availability that they were projecting."
