An investigation was immediately initiated following the discovery
An employee for the fast-food chain Dunkin' Donuts was arrested last week after police officers discovered their coffee had been spat in.
According to the Illinois State Police's statement:
“Illinois State Police (ISP) District Chicago Troopers arrested and charged Vincent J. Sessler, a 25 year old male of Chicago, IL, for Disorderly Conduct, Reckless Conduct, and Battery to a Peace Officer."
On Thursday, an ISP District Chicago Trooper visited the Dunkin' Donuts store in Chicago and purchased a large black cup of coffee.
The officer removed the lid from the coffee due to it being hot and found a “large, thick piece of mucus which was later confirmed to be saliva, floating inside it.”
An investigation was immediately initiated following the discovery before employee Vincent J. Sessler was arrested, according to the department.
“On July 31, 2020, at approximately 12:49 p.m., Sessler was taken into custody without incident by ISP District Chicago Troopers," the department added.
“This is outrageous and disgusting," ISP Director Brendan F. Kelly said.
"The men and women of the Illinois State Police put their heart and soul into protecting the lives and rights of all people in this state every day,” Kelly added.
“They deserve better than this insulting and dangerous treatment," Kelly continued.
"For their safety, ISP officers and employees will be prohibited from patronizing this location.”
Dunkin Donuts had recently announced the closure of hundreds of stores due to plummeting sales due to China originated coronavirus pandemic.
A local ABC News affiliate reported that Dunkin’ planned to close 800 locations across the country."
The news comes as anti-police sentiment in Chicago continues to grow after Presdient Donald Trump deployed federal agents to quell the violent protests.
The worrying trend for fast food employees spitting in drinks sold police officers have been reported across the US.
