New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio has moved to ban all large events like parades and fairs throughout the city but permitted Black Lives Matter protests to continue.

De Blasio painted a Black Lives Matter mural outside the Trump Tower on Thursday while yelling to reporters:

“We are saying Black Lives Matter in New York City and Black Lives Matter in the United States of America! Let’s show Donald Trump what he does not understand; let’s paint it right in front of his building for him!”

De Blasio argued that BLM demonstrators’ calls for social justice were too important to ban, despite moving to ban other events in order to stop the spread of the coronavirus.

“This is a historic moment of change. We have to respect that but also say to people the kinds of gatherings we’re used to, the parades, the fairs — we just can’t have that while we’re focusing on health right now,” de Blasio told host Wolf Blitzer.

"But we understand at this moment in history; people are talking about the need for historic changes."

"I mean, today, in New York City, recognizing the power and the meaning of the message Black Lives Matter, which we did in front of Trump Tower today, this is a historic moment of change; we have to respect that, but also say to people, the kinds of gatherings we’re used to – the parades, the fairs – we just can’t have that while we’re focusing on health right now," de Blasio declared.

President Donald Trump had tweeted on July 1:

The Mayor later responded to Trump's tweet, saying the mural was “liberating”  Fifth Avenue.

But amid de Blasio's virtue signaling, New York's crime rates have continued to soar as the city moves to cut funds from the NYPD with the full support of the Mayor.

NYPD Commissioner Dermot Shea blasted de Blasio over the recent surge in violent crime in NYC.

Shea called New York City's recent spike in violence "predictable," considering police budgets have been slashed, and 2,500 inmates have been released from Rikers Island prison.

The police commissioner's comments came after the Big Apple saw 63 people shot, at least 11 fatally, in 44 separate shootings over the holiday weekend.

One of the shootings was captured on video and showed a 29-year-old father getting shot dead as he crossed a street, hand-in-hand with his six-year-old daughter, in the Bronx on Sunday.

According to the New York Post, citing police statistics, there were three times as many shootings in the Big Apple during the last two weeks of June as during the same period in 2019.
