Grassley: Deep State is Getting Away with Trying to 'Push a President Out of Office'
Grassley referred to Barr's remarks on 'organized effort' to remove Trump
Sen.Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) noted the depth of the "deep state” in a series of tweets on Monday by describing how its members “get away with political crimes.”
Grassley referred to Attorney General Bill Barr's recent remarks saying President Donald Trump was the target of the "organized effort” to remove him from office.
But Grassley warned John Durham’s ongoing investigation into the origins of the Russia hoax might bypass bringing prosecutions, as not to influence the election in November.
.@realDonaldTrump #CommonSense Barr recently said “this is the closest we have ever come to an organized effort to push a president out of office “ leads me to think Durham wont report any prosecutions til after election so as not influence vote. SAD SAD— ChuckGrassley (@ChuckGrassley) July 6, 2020
Grassley referred to Attorney General Bill Barr's comments during an interview on Fox News with Maria Bartiromo:
A source said to me a couple of years ago, speaking of the Russia collusion story, that this was the closest the United States ever came to a coup to take down a president since the assassination of Lincoln. Is that an appropriate statement?
In this sense, I think it is the closest we have come to an organized effort to push a president out of office, but I’m not reaching a judgment as to what the motivations there were.
Grassley then wrote that “the deep state is so deep” that its members get away with political crimes.
.@realDonaldTrump #CommonSense IF NO PROSECUTIONS TIL AFTER ELECTIONS SAD SAD //just think Flynn Mueller Impeachment/ The deep state is so deep that ppl get away w political crimes/Durham shld be producing some fruit of his labor— ChuckGrassley (@ChuckGrassley) July 6, 2020
Grassley also questioned whether Obama and Biden deliberately took steps to undermine the incoming administration.
“It sure looks like they did,” he concluded.
He also noted how the Trump administration was unaware of the stage being set for the notion that Trump colluded with the Russian government.
“So much for a peaceful transition of power,” he remarked.
In May, Trump's attorney, Rudy Giuliani, predicted Barr would prosecute former FBI Director James Comey with treason.
“They wanted to take out the lawfully elected president of the United States," Giuliani said at the time.
"And they wanted to do it by lying," Giuliani added.
"Submitting false affidavits. Using phony witnesses. In other words, they wanted to do it by illegal means," he continued.
"What is overthrowing the government by illegal means? … It’s treason,” he stated.
Trump earlier this year vowed to "break the deep state," revealing that major players working against his administration were "being exposed."

"Look, they were trying to do a takedown of the president of the United States illegally."
"It's all illegal. Now, I don't know what happens," Trump said.
"What they've done is so corrupt, they've tried to take down a duly elected president of the United States, happens to be in this case, me, but we can never allow it to happen again," Trump said.
