Over 100 People Shot in Democrat-Controlled Chicago During Father's Day Weekend
14 killed during bloodbath shootings in Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s city
Over 100 people were shot in Democrat-controlled Chicago during a bloodbath Father’s Day Weekend, according to reports.
14 people were killed in the shootings as Democratic Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s city was ravaged by violence.
The first non-fatal shooting of the weekend occurred around 6:30 p.m. Friday, the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
The incident occurred when a vehicle pulled up near a 35-year-old woman and the occupants opened fire.
The woman was taken to a nearby hospital with gunshot wounds to her arm.
The weekend's last non-fatal shooting took place around 12:30 a.m. Monday, when an 18-year-old woman was shot while “driving in the 5100 block of South Calumet,” NBC Chicago reports.
The first fatal shooting of the weekend occurred at 9:52 p.m. Friday, when a car pulled up on three men and the occupants opened fire, according to Breitbart.
Two 34-year-old men and a 43-year-old man were shot, and the wounds of one of the 34-year-old men proved fatal.
The last fatal shooting of the weekend occurred just after midnight Monday morning when occupants of a car opened fire on a 15-year-old and a 16-year-old as they walked “in an alley in the 4700 block of West Superior.”
On June 21, 2020, Breitbart News reported at least 56 people had been shot in Chicago by Sunday morning of Father’s Day Weekend alone. Nine of those shooting victims died.
The Sun-Times reported 85 were shot, 24 fatally, in Chicago during the last weekend of May 2020.
The news comes as leaders in Chicago are now asking law enforcement officials to work 12-hour shifts with no days off while pledging to “Defund the Police Department” in the aftermath of the killing of George Floyd, according to Fox News.
Police officers are being demanded to go above and beyond their typical call of duty to handle ongoing protests and unrest, even as political figures are calling for their departments to be defunded or abolished entirely.
In Chicago, officers were reportedly ordered to work 12-hour shifts with no days off until further notice.
All the while, critics — including elected officials — want to strip them of funding.
"This police system in Chicago and in the country is beyond repair, and so it’s absolutely within reason for people to say that we should tear this system down and start over,” Democratic state Rep. LaShawn Ford of Chicago told reporters.
