Former Danish Immigration Minister Inger Støjberg is facing charges for rescuing child brides

A Danish lawmaker is facing criminal charges for rescuing children from Islamic child marriages to older men in Denmark.

Denmark’s former Minister for Immigration, Integration, and Housing Inger Støjberg rescued migrant child brides from illegal marriages when they came to the country.

While children marrying older husbands is illegal in Europe, the practice is still considered acceptable in much of the Muslim world.

Serving as Immigration Minister from 2015 until 2019, Støjberg oversaw the peak of the so-called “migrant crisis.”

During her time in office, she was known for her tough stance on illegal migration and her insistence that migrants must respect Danish cultural values.

Her approach earned her contempt from the Danish Left.

One of Støjberg’s most notable achievements was in saving Muslim child brides from forced marriages to adult men.

During 2015 and 2016 in particular, a large number of male migrants arrived in Denmark from Muslim countries with their very young wives.

To highlight what led her to take action, Støjberg has provided examples of cases that moved her.

She recalled one couple that arrived from Iraq in which the husband was 29 and the wife 17.

The woman was already pregnant with her third child when they got to Denmark, and she had previously given birth to two children when she was just 12 and 13 years old.

Other examples include a couple from Syria where the husband was 50 and the girl only 16.

Another “stateless” couple in which the husband was 27 and the girl was only 16, having become pregnant the first time when she was just 13.

Støjberg has blasted the practice of marrying children — which is commonplace throughout the Islamic world — as “medieval and cruel.”

To separate such couples, Støjberg did everything in her legal power.

Støjberg established legislation in 2016 to compel authorities to separate married couples if the female was under the age of 18.

“We must not turn a blind eye!” Støjberg declared in a social media post, as reported by Norway’s Human Rights Service.

"These girls are entitled to their own lives and need help. Anything else would have been completely obscene!”

By contrast, in neighboring Sweden, the migrant agencies were tolerant of such couples, even going so far as to publish a booklet of information for “adults who are married to a child.”

Since Swedish law prohibits having sex with a girl who is under the age of 15, the booklet merely refers to such marriages as “unfortunate.”

But now, liberal parties in Denmark are threatening to prosecute her for violating a technicality of international law.

Under the conventions concerning children, the separation of couples can only be carried out on a case-by-case basis.

Støjberg, however, stated in a press release in 2016 that not every case would be dealt with individually — thus offering an opening to the Left to trap her.

She is now being investigated.

In her defense, Støjberg told the commission of inquiry on Sunday that the press release had been a political message and not a policy statement.

“When you issue a press release, you do not talk about the exceptions,” she said.

“You communicate the main points.”

She insists that her actual instructions specified that individual assessments should be made in each case.

The investigation is still ongoing.

When it is complete, the Danish Parliament will make a decision as to whether Støjberg shall be prosecuted or not.

The issue of child brides is not limited to Denmark but is endemic throughout the migrant communities of Western Europe — especially since Muslims see it as part of their culture.

As Neon Nettle previously reported, a Muslim imam revealed during a BBC interview that marrying child brides is permissible under Islamic law.

The Shia cleric told the reporter that raping a girl as young as 9 years old was "no problem" under Sharia Law.
