Former CBS News Chief Blasts 'Harmful' Anti-Trump Bias in Left-Wing Media
Gordon Sauter says media has 'long been creeping leftward'
The former president of CBS News, Gordon Sauter, has admitted that biased 'anti-Trump trend' has become more evident among establishment media outlets who claim to be neutral.
Sauter wrote in an opinion article for the Wall Street Journal :
"News organizations that claim to be neutral have long been creeping leftward, and their loathing of Mr. Trump has accelerated the pace."
"The news media is catching up with the liberalism of the professoriate, the entertainment industry, upscale magazines, and the literary world. "
"Recent arrivals are the late-night TV hosts who have broken the boundaries of what was considered acceptable political humor for networks."
Sauter added that the media has become more removed from fact-based, objective reporting.
The former news chief also noted that the trend now threatens the media's long-held standing as an institution in American society.
"More important, how will a large segment of the public ever put stock in journalism it considers hostile to the country’s best interests?"
"Unfortunately, dominant media organizations have bonded with another large segment of the public — one that embraces its new approach. Pulling back from anti-Trump activism could prove commercially harmful," he said.
Sauter also said the mainstream media outlets might behoove themselves to embrace any perceived bias instead of fighting it.
"Publications open about their bias might feel freer to focus on the specifics: story selection, presentation, facts, fairness, balance."

"Not devoid of subtlety for sure, but manageable," he said.
"But America won’t reunite until far more people can look at a news story in print or on the screen and, of all things, believe it."
Sauter's remarks come after Vice President Mike Pence declared the Trump administration was “not going to tolerate” conservative voices being censored by social media and big tech companies.
During an interview with Breitbart News, Pence was asked about tech giants like Twitter, Facebook, and Google silencing conservatives voices.
The Vice President said President Donald Trump has “made it very clear” that type of behavior is unacceptable.
"Well, the president has made it very clear that we are not going to tolerate censorship on the Internet and social media against conservatives,” Pence said.
Last year, Neon Nettle reported on a study that revealed an algorithm detected that search giant Google favors left-leaning sites like CNN and The New York Times over others.
