Sweden: Migrant Charged with Raping 3-Year-Old, Giving Her STD
32-year-old Eritrean man allegedly gave Swedish child a sexually transmitted disease
An African migrant living in Sweden has been charged with raping a three-year-old Swedish child and giving her a sexually transmitted disease (STD), according to reports.
According to police, a 32-year-old man from Eritrea, East Africa has been charged with raping the young girl in a town near Stockholm.
A medical center examination has determined that the victim is now infected with an STD she contracted from her rapist.
The migrant was charged in the Attunda District Court this week, according to a report by Samhällsnytt.
The man, whose name is being withheld due to Swedish privacy laws, resides in the Sundbyberg Municipality, north of Stockholm.
According to Swedish tax records, he is an Eritrean national who was first registered in Sweden in February 2010.
Despite having lived in Sweden for over ten years, the suspect claims he doesn't speak any Swedish, only Arabic.
The police report shows the attack occurred in a residence in the Sollentuna Municipality, also north of Stockholm.
The charge indicates that the rape took place in either January or February of this year.
After the assault, the mother began to suspect that the girl was suffering from a disease.
She took her daughter to a medical center in Tureberg where it was determined that she was infected with an STD.
Doctors quickly alerted the police and testing indicated that the Eritrean suspect has the same infection.
Police investigators have been interrogating the migrant.
The suspect claims he still needs a translator to communicate with officers, despite having lived in Sweden since 2010.
He denies that he committed any crimes.
Crimes committed by migrants, particularly sexual assaults, have become a serious problem in Sweden in recent years.
