Bernie Sanders: 'Vast Majority' of My Supporters Will Vote for Biden
'He's a racist and a sexist, a homophobe,' Sanders said of Trump
The Vermont senator told ABC’s This Week on Sunday:
“Look, I think at the end of the day, the vast majority of the people who voted for me, who supported me, will understand and do understand that Donald Trump is the most dangerous president in the modern history of this country," Sanders said.
"He's a pathological liar," Sanders added.
"He's a racist and a sexist, a homophobe, et cetera,” he continued.
"At the end of the day, I think they’ll be voting for Joe Biden.”
Jeff Weaver, Sanders' former campaign manager, warned Biden would lose to Trump because “a significant portion” of his supporters are “currently unsupportive and unenthusiastic” about his candidacy.
According to one poll, 1 in 7 Sanders supporters is not planning to back Biden.
Even the former presidential candidate's ex-press secretary voiced opposition to Biden.
Sanders admitted Biden still needs work to attract support by moving further left.
“I think Joe and his staff understand that," Sanders said.
" I think they are going to reach out to our supporters and come up with an agenda that speaks to the needs of working families, of young families, of minority communities,” he added.
Meanwhile, Trump is enjoying his “highest” approval in the latest Gallup survey, way above four of the previous six presidents, including Barack Obama and George W. Bush.
Despite weeks of bad news regarding the coronavirus pandemic, Trump kept his 49% approval rating, while his disapproval moved by one point to 48% in the Gallup survey of adults.
Some pollsters say the media’s coverage of Trump has caused a backlash.
48% believe the media has been unfair to Trump, while 42% who said it has been fair, according to the latest McLaughlin & Associates survey.
