Trump: China Will ‘Do Anything’ to Stop Me Being Re-Elected
President takes swipe at China for highly criticised coronavirus response
President Donald Trump took another swipe at China on Wednesday over its widely noted response to the coronavirus pandemic.
The President said the communist nation's response was evidence that they were trying to get him to lose his re-election bid.
Trump said he believed that China would approve of a Joe Biden presidency, which would ultimately ease pressure on his administration's trade policies, including tariffs on Chinese goods, which is worth billions of dollars.
“China will do anything they can to have me lose this race,” Trump said.
Trump added China should have acted quicker in response to the outbreak.
The president remarks echoed Dr. Deborah Birx, who last month admitted that they "didn’t know how contagious” the coronavirus was due to holes in the data reported by China.
"And so, we didn’t know how it was spreading. We didn’t know the surface contact," she admitted.
"We didn’t know how — I think the bottom line is, we didn’t know how contagious it was," Birx added.
Trump added the trade deal signed in January has been “upset very badly” due to the virus.
White House officials told Reuters the “truce” between Trump and President Xi Jinping appeared to be over.
Trump also dismissed recent polls that showed Biden was leading the 2020 race.
“I don’t believe the polls,” Trump told the news organization.
“I believe the people of this country are smart. And I don’t think that they will put a man in who’s incompetent.”

Earlier this month, Trump said:
“If Joe Biden got in, they’d own America."
“Between them and China and Japan and Mexico and Canada, they’d own America," he added.

On Wednesday, Trump revealed that the United States is looking into suing China for compensation to cover the economic damage from the pandemic.
China has been widely criticized by countries around the world for mishandling and covering-up the beginning of the outbreak.
The UK Government has also insisted that the Chinese Communist Party (CPC) has instituted a campaign of misinformation over the virus.
“Germany's looking at things, and we're looking at things, and we're talking about a lot more money than Germany's talking about," Trump told reporters.
"We haven't determined the final amount yet."
