Senator Scott: Pelosi Holding Small Businesses ‘Hostage’ During Coronavirus
Senator blasts House Speaker over Paycheck Protection Program
Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) blasted House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) for holding small businesses “hostage" over the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP).
Scott asserted the Democrats of having a negative impact on people's ability to feed their kids and pay their bills during the coronavirus pandemic.
The Senator referenced the Democrats’ blocking replenishing the Small Business Administration loan program.
“I always like to say that the Democrats who are holding this up, realize you’re not negatively impacting businesses, as much as you’re negatively impacting people’s ability to pay their rent, to pay their utilities, to feed their kids,” Scott stated.
“This is a serious situation, that we shouldn’t have a lapse in funding for the PPP program," he added.
"We should tell Ms. Nancy Pelosi; please give us our paychecks," he said.
"People need their paychecks. And stop holding it hostage in order to do something else.”
“Going forward, I hope that this week, on Monday, the Senate is able to vote on a package that’s agreed upon with the House and the Senate," he added.
"Tuesday, the Democrats get it passed,” Scott continued.
“And Tuesday, one minute later, we start refunding, replenishing the supply of the Paycheck Protection Program.”

But even some Democrats sided with Scott on the issue of PPP funding.
As Neon Nettle reported on Saturday, Fifteen House Democrats blasted Pelosi's refusal to replenish the small business relief fund,
The Paycheck Protection Program (PPP), ran out of money on Thursday.
The loss of funding ignited outrage from congressional GOP leaders like Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), and House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA.)
The $350 billion programs have halted applications from struggling businesses.
Rep. Diana DeGette (D-CO) said:
“Congress must immediately replenish funds for the Paycheck Protection Program. Millions of small businesses are counting on this program to cover expenses and pay their workers. We have to get this right.”
