Trump Urges Citizens to Defend 2nd Amendment: 'It is Under Siege!'
President says Americans must 'save' their constitutional rights amid the pandemic
President Donald Trump has issued a call to action for American citizens to defend their Second Amendment rights.
On Saturday, the president called on the public to "save" their constitutional rights, declaring "it is under siege!"
Trump defended challenging Virginia's Democrat Gov. Ralph Northam on the Second Amendment during the coronavirus pandemic.
During a White House press briefing, a reporter from the Wall Street Journal asked Trump if it was “right time” to bring up Virginian 2A rights issues, citing a message on Twitter from the president.
LIBERATE VIRGINIA, and save your great 2nd Amendment. It is under siege!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) April 17, 2020
"LIBERATE VIRGINIA, and save your great 2nd Amendment. It is under siege!" Trump's tweet declared.
“I think that’s an easy one, that’s not even politics, we’re entitled to a Second Amendment,” Trump responded to the reporter.
“To me that’s liberty … where does it all stop?”
The United States is selling an unprecedented amount of guns amid the pandemic, Trump noted,
“It’s obviously a big issue, and then you have them working and signing documents and trying to take your Second Amendment away essentially,” Trump said.
The president was referring to Gov. Ralph Northam signing gun control legislation during the COVID-19 crisis.
“I do think it’s an appropriate time to bring it up,” he added.
Trump continued by saying Northam did a “horrible thing” to his state by pushing his long-term goal of gun control.
According to Breitbart, Northam signed numerous gun control laws on April 10, 2020.
Among them were a ban on private gun sales, limits on the number of guns law-abiding Virginians may buy in a given month, and storage laws that place new reporting burdens on gun owners, among other things.
As Neon Nettle previously reported, President Trump sent a clear message regarding gun control to lawmakers in the Democrat-controlled state of Virginia in January.
Trump warned that he will not allow them to undermine the Second Amendment rights of American citizens while he's in office.
I will NEVER allow our great Second Amendment to go unprotected, not even a little bit!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) January 20, 2020
Speaking during an interview with Fox News, President Trump warned Democrats that a gun grab "will never happen as long as I’m here."
Virginia's state Assembly and Senate came under Democratic control following wins in the 2019 elections.
In conjunction with the Democrats who control the state’s executive offices, Dem officials immediately pushed forward with plans to legislatively impose strict gun control measures upon law-abiding gun-owners in the state.
Virginians have been rising up in response, with tens of thousands of gun owners and Second Amendment supporters marching on the state capitol in Richmond in opposition to the gun-control measures earlier this year.
