Democrat Pushes Chinese Propaganda: COVID-19 'Not Because of Anything China Did'
Senator Chris Murphy deflects blame from China to US
Democratic Senator Chris Murphy (CT) has defended Communist China on the origins of the coronavirus crisis, arguing that the United States was not in crisis “because of anything that China did.”
Speaking to CNN’s Anderson Cooper, Murphy falsey claimed the Trump administration was careless prior to the outbreak, despite Trump banning travel from China amid backlash from Democrats.
“We knew it was a matter of time before it arrived here, and it was shocking how cavalier the administration was," Murphy said.
"This was at a time when the president really, you know, viewed this as a hoax,” Murphy falsely claimed.
“He said so on TV, and the reason that we’re in the crisis that we are today is not because of anything that China did.”
But Murphy's claims are false.
China had lied about the outbreak in the early stages, attempted numerous cover-ups, and even delayed alerting the world to the severity of the virus.
On Wednesday, just hours after President Donald Trump announced a halt on WHO funding, a leaked document surfaced revealing when Chinese Communist President Xi Jinping was made aware of the outbreak, which backs up claims the country delayed alerting the world.
The leaked documents also “show that the head of China’s National Health Commission, Ma Xiaowei, laid out a grim assessment of the situation on Jan. 14 in a confidential teleconference with provincial health officials.”
According to a leaked email, the World Health Organization (WHO) received warnings about the outbreak in China as early as December.
The Taiwanese government alleges the WHO ignored its inquiries about COVID-19, and they were denied adequate information to fight the coronavirus.
WHO boss Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has come under fire over allegedly facilitating China's propaganda regarding the severity of the virus.
Tedros was explicitly accused of allowing China to underreport the impact of the virus in Wuhan.

Critics argue the allegedly lowballed numbers from China have affected other nations’ ability to respond to the outbreak adequately.
As Neon Nettle reported in March, a Chinese news outlet blew the whistle on more propaganda from the country, claiming the ruling Communist Party (CPC) was "faking" its miraculous recovery.
Beijing-based Caixin claimed China is far from recovered from the virus.
The newspaper states that “local governments are faking coronavirus recovery.”
The paper cites business insiders across the country that claim to be unable to fill quotas set by the government.
Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said last month that other member nations of the G7 understood China was launching a propaganda campaign.
Pompeo outlined China's reluctance to work with the US on combatting the virus while withholding vital information.
“We’ve wanted to work with the Chinese Communist Party throughout this crisis – this crisis that began in Wuhan, China,” Pompeo said.
“We tried – you’ll remember – from the opening days to get our scientists, our experts on the ground there so that we could begin to assist in the global response to what began there in China, but we weren’t able to do that. The Chinese Communist Party wouldn’t permit that to happen.”
Pompeo also noted China's tried to deflect the blame for the virus on the US, suggesting the American military brought the Virus to Wuhan.
"You see it. You see it in the social media. You see it in remarks from senior people inside the Chinese Communist Party talking about whether this was the U.S. – U.S. brought to China," he continued.
