Trump Shames Media with Video of Their Coronavirus Reporting Failures

President Donald Trump shamed reporters over their reporting on the coronavirus by showing them a video of their failures at the White House press briefing.
Trump first called out the recent New York Times report with the headline, “He Could Have Seen What Was Coming: Behind Trump’s Failure on the Virus.”
The piece claimed Trump was "warned about the potential for a pandemic ... [but] internal divisions, lack of planning, and his faith in his own instincts led to a halting response."
“We have a few clips that we’re just going to put up; we could just turn the lights down lower, I think you’ll find them interesting,” Trump said.
“And then we’ll answer some questions, I’ll ask you some questions because you’re so guilty, but forget it.”
Trump played the video on the screens at the White House press briefing room.
“The media minimized the risk from the start,” the text of the video read before a series of flashback clips to prominent media professionals downplaying the virus threat.
The clip also featured a timeline of Trump's actions to defend the country from the coronavirus, as the media and Democrats criticized him at every step.
Another clip featured audio from New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman who highlighted the president’s “effective” effort to prevent the spread of the virus with a ban on travel from China.

But the clip also noted praise that Trump received from Democrat governors like Andrew Cuomo, who applauded the president for his "100 percent sincere" response to fighting coronavirus pandemic.
The video also showed a clip of California Gov. Gavin Newsom, who said earlier this month he would be "lying" if he did not credit him for his handling of the coronavirus pandemic.

Reporter Jonathan Karl questioned why the president would use White House staff to complete a “campaign-style” video.
“We could have given you hundreds just like that,” Trump said.
“We have them. We didn’t want this to go on too long.”
Later, Vice President Mike Pence backed up Trump by saying, “I support the president’s leadership under the national emergency declaration he signed.”
