Dr. Fauci: World May Never Return To Normal After COVID-19
National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases director warns of looming threat
Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, Dr. Anthony Fauci, claimed that the world might never return to the “normal” after the coronavirus outbreak during a coronavirus press briefing on Monday.
Although Fauci said the world would gradually begin functioning as a society again, he said the looming threat of the virus will always be there.
"When we get back to normal, we will go back to the point where we can function as a society,” he said.
"If you want to get back to pre-coronavirus, that might not ever happen in the sense that the threat is there," he added.
Currently, the hardest-hit areas have reported a decline in new infections, according to health experts.
Fauci also added that the world needs to prepare for a resurgence of the virus next year, which is why officials are pushing for a vaccine and clinical trials.
He also said he is “confident that over a period of time, we will get a good vaccine, that we will never have to get back to where we are right now."
Gates said he is pumping cash into development, and seven vaccine makers have already secured funding.
In February, the billionaire warned that the coronavirus could be a "once-in-a-century pathogen we've been worried about."

Gate wrote in an article for the New England Journal of Medicine:
"I hope it’s not that bad, but we should assume it will be until we know otherwise."
"There are two reasons that COVID-19 is such a threat. First, it can kill healthy adults in addition to elderly people with existing health problems," Gates added.
But Gates's efforts for a vaccine might be in vain.
On Monday, a Los Angeles doctor praised the use of malaria drug hydroxychloroquine to treat COVID-19 patients, claiming people infected with the coronavirus can go from "very ill" to "basically symptom-free" in a matter of hours.
Dr. Anthony Cardillo praised President Donald Trump-touted drug during an interview with a local news station on Sunday.
“What we’re finding clinically with our patients is that it really only works in conjunction with zinc,” Cardillo said.
"So the hydroxychloroquine opens the zinc channel, zinc goes into the cell, it then blocks the replication of the cellular machinery."
