Ilhan Omar Calls for 'National Lockdown' Amid Coronavirus Pandemic
Congresswoman suggest US lacks a 'functioning health care system'
Omar also suggested the US lacked a “functioning health care system.”
“Let’s add this to the list of things we shouldn’t be leading the world in," the Minnesota Democrat tweeted.
She added that the Trump administration “desperately needed” to act.
According to numbers compiled by Johns Hopkins University researchers, the U.S surpassed China and Italy in confirmed cases of COVID-19, with over 82,000 of them.
New York alone has almost 40,000 cases, and as Neon Nettle reported last week, the virus is killing residents of New York City at a rate of over one per hour.
But some analysts have questioned China’s reported statistics.
Foreign affairs analyst Gordon Chang told Fox News:
"For China, the truth has always been a casualty."
On Thursday, coronavirus cases surpassed 520,000.
Earlier this week, Omar floated her “radical idea” of taking over private hospitals to help fight the coronavirus outbreak.
The Minnesota Democrat wrote on Twitter:
“All private hospitals should be made public for the duration of the virus."
Omar added that the government takeover could help address “some of the pressures our healthcare system is facing.”

But the far-left congresswoman offered no specifics on the take over of the private property.
Omar later faced backlash on social media, who said her plan sounded like communism.
She also called for freeing Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detainees and prisoners being held on bail.
Omar sent letters to House leadership and the acting secretary of Homeland Security requesting a freeze on deportation and additional funding for refugees and migrants amid the pandemic.
Earlier this week, several progressive Democratic lawmakers demanded the Department of Homeland Security releases illegal aliens from detention and lightens immigration enforcement measures.
Democratic Washington Rep. Pramila Jayapal joined other Democratic members of Congress to demand that acting Homeland Security Secretary Chad Wolf take action to protect the immigrant community and detained illegal aliens from COVID-19.
