NYT Covers for Democrats by Editing Headline 3 Times on Failed Coronavirus Deal
News outlet does 'damage control' for Democrats
The New York Times edited a headline on the Democrats' vote to block a crucial bipartisan bill aimed at providing economic relief to Americans amid the global coronavirus pandemic.
The news outlet adjusted the headline three times, seemingly to appease the party.
The original headline read:
“Democrats Block Action on $1.8 Trillion Stimulus.”
The second version then added justification for the Democrats:
“Democrats Block Action on Stimulus Plan, Seeking Worker Protections.”
Then the third headline completely removed the word 'Democrats.'
“Partisan Divide Threatens Deal on Rescue Bill.”
The three headline changes took place in the space of an hour.
Senate Democrats blocked the critical $2 trillion coronavirus economic relief package in a 47-47 vote on Sunday night.
The move has reportedly sent futures markets into freefall, plummeting by over 5 percent.
Democrats have stalled the plan to pass the bill by Monday and send it to the House for a vote, according to the Washington Examiner.
Democrats blocked a package that includes direct cash payments averaging around $3,000 per family ($1,000 per adult and $500 per child), according to The Blaze.

The bill also included an expansion of unemployment benefits and over $850 billion in loans to small businesses and industries directly impacted by the deadly pandemic that has brought the U.S. economy to a grinding halt.
Neon Nettle later reported that Pelosi was identified as the lawmaker responsible for killing the bipartisan emergency coronavirus relief bill.
According to Ben Williamson, the chief of staff for Rep. Mark Meadows (R-NC), Speaker Pelosi is reportedly why Democrats suddenly U-turned on the measures that previously had bipartisan support in the Senate.
John Bresnahan, Politico's Washington bureau chief, reported that Pelosi had a "laundry list" of new demands, including many items completely unrelated to COVID-19 relief, like election security funding, student loan debt forgiveness, and a "host of other issues."
