AOC: People Not Eating at Asian Restaurants Are Racist About Coronavirus
Democratic socialist congressman makes bizarre claim on Instagram Live

Democratic socialist Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez suggested people avoiding Chinese and Asian restaurants due to the coronavirus are racist during a bizarre video.
“Honestly, it sounds almost so silly to say, but there’s a lot of restaurants that are feeling the pain of racism,” Ocasio-Cortez said during an Instagram Live video.
“Where people are literally not patroning Chinese restaurants, uh, they’re not patroning Asian restaurants because of just straight up racism around the coronavirus.”
AOC uses the word 'patroning' rather than visiting or eating at Asian restaurants.
Other Democrats and far-left journalists have claimed that calling the coronavirus by its country of origin is also racist.
But, the American Council on Science and Health, said “historically, microbiologists named new diseases after locations, animals or people”

As NewThud reported: Rep. Ilhan Omar accused GOP Leader Kevin McCarthy of being “racist” for tying the Coronavirus to China and referring to the “Chinese coronavirus.”
Kevin McCarthy had tweeted:
Everything you need to know about the Chinese coronavirus can be found on one, regularly-updated website:
Ilhan Omar responded:
Viruses don’t have nationalities.
This is racist.
McCarthy's reference prompted the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to demand an apology Tuesday.
“Calling the 2019 novel coronavirus the ‘Chinese’ or ‘Wuhan’ coronavirus is as descriptive as calling it the ‘CPAC coronavirus’ — that is to say not descriptive at all,’’ CAPAC Chairwoman Rep. Judy Chu, the first Chinese American woman elected to Congress, said in a statement.

We often name viruses on their location of origin.

Ebola
Zika
West Nile
Spanish Flu
That name says nothing about the people who live there.
Thinking a virus name is racist shows who is more concerned with scoring political points than saving lives. https://t.co/b5GIaf3PFt

“Worse, it’s harmful.’’
The California Democrat, of Monterey Park, accused McCarthy of “stoking xenophobia.”
Pelosi called on McCarthy to “delete this tweet and apologize immediately.”
“Bigoted statements which spread misinformation and blame Asians and the Asian American community for #coronavirus make us all less safe,” she said on Twitter.
Last week, Trump accused Pelosi of trying to create "panic" over the coronavirus to give herself a "political advantage."
Pelosi accused the Trump administration of responding “too late” to halt the possible spread of China’s deadly coronavirus in the United States.“This is shameful,” Pelosi told reporters on Capitol Hill when asked about the administration sending a $2.5 billion supplemental budget request to combat the illness.
