Following the death of former Department of Homeland Security official and Obama whistleblower, Philip Haney, police said initial reports suggesting his death was by suicide were "misinformation."

Haney blew the whistle on his own agency during the Obama administration, who was alleged 'covering up' terrorism.

The former official was found deceased in his vehicle last week, just three miles from where he was living, 40 miles east of Sacramento, California.

The Amador County Sheriff's Office stated in its press release on Haney's death that he "appeared to have suffered a single, self-inflicted gunshot wound," and that "a firearm was located next to Haney and his vehicle."

The Amador County Sheriff's Office stated in the press release:

Unfortunately, there was misinformation immediately put out that we have determined Mr. Haney's death to be a suicide.

This is not the case.

We are currently in the beginning phase of our investigation, and any final determination as to the cause and manner of Mr. Haney's death would be extremely premature and inappropriate.

The report reiterated that the investigation was still active and ongoing.

An autopsy has been scheduled to be conducted while the sheriff's office has reached out to the FBI to assist in processing evidence surround Haney's death.

In 2016, Haney testified to Congress that the DHS under Obama had ordered him to delete the files of hundreds of individuals linked to Islamic terrorist groups.

Haney argued that if the files had not been destroyed, several U.S. domestic terror attacks could have been prevented.

Hanley claimed while writing for The Hill in 2016, that Obama had thrown the U.S. intelligence community "under the bus" for failing to "connect the dots" after a Nigerian Muslim terror suspect was connected to a terror plot which failed Christmas Day in 2009.

"Most Americans were unaware of the enormous damage to morale at the Department of Homeland Security, where I worked, his condemnation caused," Haney wrote, referring to Obama.

Some media outlets questioned reports that the whistleblower had committed suicide.

Haney was reportedly in was in talks to return to the DHS and that he was engaged to be married.

Haney himself told Washington Examiner in November that he was planning to write a sequel to his first book, "See Something, Say Nothing: A Homeland Security Officer Exposes the Government's Submission to Jihad."
