Bloomberg to Bernie: Putin 'is Helping You Get Elected,' So 'You’ll Lose to Trump'

Former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg floated a Russia-related conspiracy theory during Tuesday night’s Democratic presidential debate, claiming Russian Dictator Vladimir Putin is helping Bernie Sanders get elected so he can lose to President Donald Trump.
While the media mogul was dodging questions about the economy, he brought up a recent report that Russia was helping Sanders in the Democratic primary.
“Vladimir Putin thinks that Donald Trump should be president of the United States, and that’s why Russia is helping you get elected so you’ll lose to him,” Bloomberg told Sanders.
In response, Sanders condemned Putin’s alleged support and deflected with bringing up Bloomberg’s past praise of the Chinese Communist Party.
“Let me tell Mr. Putin, I’m not a good friend of President Xi of China,” Sanders said.
“I think President Xi is an authoritarian leader.”

"Hey, Mr. Putin, if I’m president of the United States, trust me: You’re not gonna interfere in any more American elections,” Bloomberg added.
On Tuesday, Sanders claimed Communist China took “more people out of extreme poverty than any country in history.”
"But can anyone deny, I mean, the facts are clear, that they have taken more people out of extreme poverty than any country in history."
"Do I get criticized because I say that?" Sanders asked.
"That’s the truth," he stated.
"So that is a fact. End of discussion.”

Following Bloomberg's humiliating performance during last week's Democrat Debate, he declared President Donald Trump was "the real winner" of the night.
There's a growing consensus among political pundits that President Trump is benefiting politically from the chaotic nature of the Democratic primary.
"Look, the real winner of the debate last night was Donald Trump," he said.
"Because I worry that we may be on the way to nominating someone who cannot win in November."
"If we choose a candidate who appeals to a small base like Sen. [Bernie] Sanders, it will be a fatal error," Bloomberg added.
"We need Democrats and independents and Republicans to win," he said.
"And that was the coalition that propelled Democrats to success in the midterms and it is the coalition that we need to win in November."
