President Donald Trump’s defense team concluded arguments against two articles of impeachment, stating the Democrats' efforts to remove the president from office was politically motivated and lacked proof.

“At the end of the day, this is an effort to overturn the results of one election and to influence the results of the coming election that begins today in Iowa,” White House counsel Pat Cipollone told senators.

"The only appropriate result here is to acquit the president and leave it to the voters to choose their president."

The month-long senate impeachment trial will conclude Wednesday with Trump's acquittal on two impeachment articles charging him with abuse of power and obstruction of Congress, looking highly likely.

“There is no such evidence,” Trump ordered anyone to withhold the money from Ukraine in exchange for the investigations, Mike Purpura, deputy counsel to the president, said.

Last November, the White House released a new transcript of the first call between the president and Ukraine's leader.

The transcript of the April phone call shows that President Donald Trump agreed to meet with Ukraine’s then-President-elect Volodymyr Zelensky without any preconditions.

The document shows that the actual conversation between the two leaders runs counter to the allegations by Democrats that President Trump "bribed" Ukraine to pressure them to investigate former Vice President Joe Biden - the basis of the entire impeachment proceedings.

The House impeachment managers, Purpura argued, “didn’t meet their burden of proof.”

Last week, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) stated that Trumps's "acquittal would be meaningless" if Senate Republicans refuse to allow additional witnesses and documents in the Senate’s impeachment trial.

Schumer stated:

“If my Republican colleagues refuse to consider witnesses and documents in this trial, the president’s acquittal will be meaningless."

"Because it will be the result of a sham trial," Schumer added.
