Ted Cruz: Elizabeth Warren Helped Trump's Acquittal With Impeachment Question
Presidential candidate hoped to boost her campaign but it backfired

Sen. Ted Cruz claimed Sen. Elizabeth Warren helped sway senators to vote to acquit President Donald Trump in his impeachment trial, according to reports.
The Presidential hopeful submitted a question to Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts questioning his credibility.
Roberts later read aloud Warren's question.
"At a time when large majorities of Americans have lost faith in government, does the fact that the chief justice is presiding over an impeachment trial in which Republican senators have thus far refused to allow witnesses or evidence contribute to the loss of legitimacy of the chief justice, the Supreme Court, and the Constitution?" Warren asked.
Cruz stated that Warren intended to give her presidential campaign a boost, but it backfired by driving Republicans to vote against calling additional witnesses to testify.

“Elizabeth Warren helped defeat the impeachment of the president of the United States,” the Texas Republican said.
“That stunt helped deliver the votes of Lisa and Lamar,” he added.
The following day, Republican Sen. Lisa Murkowski came out against calling additional witnesses in the trial.
Murkowski, R-Alaska, a key moderate senator, stated:
“Given the partisan nature of this impeachment from the very beginning and throughout, I have come to the conclusion that there will be no fair trial in the Senate," she said.

Trump is accused of withholding aid to Ukraine in order to push an investigation into former Vice President Joe Biden and his family.
But Trump has denied this by repeatedly urging people to read the transcripts.
On Thursday, Viktor Shokin, the fired Ukraine prosecutor who was forced out of his job due to pressure from Joe Biden, filed a federal complaint against the former vice president, demanding a full investigation into allegations of bribery.
