Biden Admits His VP Needs to Be Able to Take Over as President: ‘I’m An Old Guy'
Biden's remarks further cemented Trump’s nickname for him 'Sleepy Joe'
White House hopeful Joe Biden admitted that it was important that, if he's elected, his vice president would need to be able to take over as president because he is “an old guy.”
“I can think of at least eight women, at least four or five people of color, that I think are totally qualified to be vice president of the United States,” Biden said.
“But for me, it has to be demonstrated that whoever I pick is two things.”
“One, is capable of being president because I’m an old guy,” Biden added.
“No, I’m serious. Look, thank God I’m in great health, I work out, no, I’m serious, you know I work out every morning. I’m in good shape.”
Biden's remarks further cemented Trump’s nickname for him, “Sleepy Joe Biden,” implying he is a “very slow” and “exhausted” candidate.
President Donald Trump has referred to Biden using the 'Sleepy Joe' nickname dozens of times.
Last year, Biden's brain neurosurgeon insisted he had not suffered brain damage and is in good health, despite mounting concerns about his mental condition.
According to Biden's doctor, Dr. Neal Kassell, "he is every bit as sharp as he was 31-years-ago."
Kassell said he had not seen ‘any change’ in his patient over the last 20 years, Politico reported at the time.
In 1988, Biden was previously treated for two brain aneurysms.
"I can tell you with absolute certainty that he had no brain damage, either from the hemorrhage or from the operations that he had," Kassell said.

"There was no damage whatsoever."
But the former Vice President has consistently displayed signs suggesting all is not as well mentally.
One of Biden's most famous gaffes was when he said he was the Vice president in 2018 during the Parkland school shooting.
Biden claimed he was VP and oversaw the attacks at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting that took the lives of 17 people in Parkland, Florida, on February 14, 2018.
However, the Parkland shooting took place long after Biden had left office.
In August last year, Biden seemingly displayed difficulty recalling former President Obama’s name during a discussion about Russia’s annexation of Crimea.
The presidential candidate's fellow 2020 Democrats also began asking whether the former vice president is actually mentally fit enough to run the country.
New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker also suggested Biden’s mental fitness last year.
“I think that we are at a tough point right now because there’s a lot of people who are concerned about Joe Biden’s ability to carry the ball across the end line without fumbling."
