Kamala Harris Caught Smiling Before Discussing 'Solemn, Serious' Impeachment - WATCH
Failed presidential candidate appears to give a somewhat gleeful smile off-camera
Failed presidential candidate Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) stated that the impeachment trial against President Donald Trump was “solemn” and “serious” just moments after being caught smiling on camera.
Harris was speaking to MSNBC’s Kasie Hunt while wearing all-white after she was sworn in as a juror in the Senate trial.
Harris appears to give a somewhat gleeful smile off-camera before quickly turning her face to a more serious expression when she begins to talk about impeachment.
“Can you start just by taking us through the moments that you just experienced on the floor of the senate and what the task is at hand?” Hunt asked Harris.
“This is a solemn, serious moment,” Harris replied.
“These are the most serious charges brought in the history of our country against a president," she added.
"The moment we just experienced I think is highlighting the importance of doing impartial justice and taking seriously the importance of listening to the evidence and the importance of receiving evidence both in terms of witnesses and in terms of documents," Harris continued.
"Because the American people and the constitution of the United States require that we demand all evidence so that we can follow the facts and the evidence where they lead.”
“Do you think the Senate is capable of conducting a fair trial?” asked Hunt.
“If the United States Senate cannot conduct a fair trial, then we can talk about the beginning of the end to our democracy and our system of justice,” Harris responded.

Pelosi drew criticism for signing the documents with gold commemorative pens - with her name on them - which she then handed out to Democrats as souvenirs to celebrate the occasion.
Critics slammed Pelosi and other anti-Trump Democrats, saying the tone of the event seemed celebratory.
The mood was a far cry from December when the Democrat-controlled body voted to impeach the president on abuse of power and obstruction of Congress allegations.
“Nancy Pelosi’s souvenir pens served up on silver platters to sign the sham articles of impeachment,” White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham tweeted in response.
“She was so somber as she gave them away to people like prizes.”
It seems that 'solemn' for the Democrats is only for the camera.
