Dr. Anthony Fauci has confirmed that Santa Claus is 'immune' to COVID-19

Dr. Anthony Fauci, America's leading coronavirus expert, has confirmed that Santa Claus is "immune" to COVID-19.

According to the nation's top infectious disease expert, Santa cannot catch or spread the virus, meaning his Christmas rounds will not be impacted by the pandemic this year.

Santa will be only spreading lots of joy while visiting millions of homes this Christmas, Dr. Fauci says.

“Santa is exempt from this because Santa, of all the good qualities, has a lot of good innate immunity,” Fauci told USA Today.

“Santa is not going to be spreading any infections to anybody,” Fauci said.

Fauci also assured children of all ages that St. Nicholas is "exempt" from coronavirus restrictions such as travel limits.

COVID-19 won't get in the way of Santa completing his Christmas rounds

That’s good news for the most elusive man in the world, who would normally be considered high-risk for a serious case of COVID.

With his global travels, history of smoking and drinking, his staggering age — 1,750 —, and obesity issues, Santa would normally be considered a "high risk" for the bug.

But rest assured, one of the worst global health crises ever won’t keep Santa down.

Dr. Peter Hotez, the dean of the National School of Tropical Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, backed up Fauci's assurances.

Santa’s little helpers have also been busy warding off the virus in the North Pole, according to Dr. Hotez.

“I hear the ventilation in Santa’s workshop is not the best, and opening windows in North Pole winters problematic,” Hotez told USA Today.

“The good news is that mask compliance there is pretty good, and the elves are committed to social distancing.

"Mrs. Claus has implemented a program of regular testing and the reindeer now lead contact tracing.”

Christmas outside of the comforts — and safety — of the home will look a bit different this year, though.

Santa is forgoing his usual holiday tradition of visits at Macy’s in Herald Square, but he will be making many virtual appearances instead.

Last week, Italy’s prime minister, Giuseppe Conte, also announced that Santa had “international self-certification” to depart from his North Pole workshop in spite of international COVID-19 restrictions.

“He can travel everywhere and distribute gifts to all children around the world. Without any limitation,” Conte wrote in Italian and English on Facebook in response to a message from a 5-year-old Italian boy named Tommaso.

“He confirmed to me that he always uses a mask and maintains a correct distance to protect himself and everyone he meets.”
