At a time when many children are looking forward to opening presents on Christmas Day, one 11-year-old boy did something a lot different.

Jaxson Turner of Plano, Texas, chose to bring Christmas gifts to homeless children.

“The idea is that Santa would always give me everything on my Christmas list, and this year my Christmas wish is to be able to help others who are in need,” Jaxson told KTVT.

Both Jaxson and his mother, LaKeicee Turner, managed to raise more than $5,000 in donations for gifts for homeless kids.

Once the presents were ready, they were to be transported to the Samaritan Inn homeless center in McKinney, where homeless children could get a Christmas present.

“They’re in need more than us, and their parents can’t afford for them to have a Christmas, and I don’t want them to suffer,” Jaxson said.

“The only thing I want is to be able to help and see the smiles on their faces, and that’s the best Christmas gift I can ever get.”

$500 was also donated by Famous Footwear, which meant Jaxson was able to buy shoes for all the kids at the Samaritan Inn.

This was the real joy of Christmas for Jaxson.

“Me and my Mommy were over here screaming and crying,” he said, recalling the donations.

Jaxson made his plans clear on his fundraiser’s GoFundMe page,

“I would like to raise enough money to provide a Christmas Dinner, games, music, gifts, face painting, & hopefully Santa can show up a little early with me,” he wrote.

“I know that Christmas is about celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ, which we will do, but it never hurts to add some smiles to those who are homeless and less fortunate as we spread smiles & love. God loves when we help each other.”

Jaxson added he wanted to make God proud of his efforts.

“God likes whenever you help each other, and I just want to make God proud,” Jaxson said.

He’s definitely made his mom proud.

“He gets it. Jaxson just, he gets it,” she said.

“I’m excited to see the joy on his face as he selflessly passes up Christmas for himself."

"And that’s huge.”
