[OPINION] Throughout 2019, the news cycle has extensively reported on tragic events like the New Zealand massacre, which saw dozens of Muslims at two mosques gunned down.

The horrific incident became the most prominent news story in the world, and rightly so.

But shouldn't all mass killings have the same media coverage?

Sadly, mass killings of Christians are not getting the media coverage they deserve.

In some cases, such incidents are totally ignored by the mainstream media in the United States.

The question is, why?

The establishment media, and those who control it, seemingly view Christians to be one of the main obstacles to “progress," so putting the religion in a positive light does not aid their narrative.

The lack of media coverage has resulted in many Americans being completely in the dark to the fact that “4,136 Christians were killed for faith-related reasons” last year.

That number averages 11 per day.

Over Christians have been gunned down or killed with machetes in Nigeria.

As Breitbart News reported, Fulani jihadists racked up a death toll of over 120 Christians over the past three weeks in central Nigeria, employing machetes and gunfire to slaughter men, women, and children, burning down over 140 houses, destroying property, and spreading terror.

A Nigerian archbishop condemned the mass genocide of Christians in his country and the media silence on the issue.

Archbishop Matthew Man-oso Ndagoso described how Christians are being killed like chickens" in his country.

Speaking to LifeSiteNews, Man-oso Ndagoso said that the Muslim-dominated northwest, people are living in constant fear, especially in the states the state of Kaduna where he lives.

“It is one of the states where everybody walks around afraid. There are kidnappers and bandits, and they are killing people. Villages are being burned down,” Archbishop Ndagoso said.

The Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, warned that Christians are now facing 'imminent extinction' in the middle east.

But the likes of the New York Times failed to put this type of story on the front page, or even cover it at all.

The same can be said for the LA Times, the Washington Post, the Chicago Tribune, and the Detroit Free Press.

Last year, the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, warned that Christians are now facing 'imminent extinction' in the middle east.

Welby declared to his followers that the 'daily threat of murder' is getting worse and the situation is now worse than the 'Mongol invasions of the 13th century'.

The Archbishop advised the Government to take in more Christian refugees, due to figures suggesting just 1 in 400 Syrian refugees given asylum last year were Christian.

"Christians face daily the threat of violence, murder, intimidation, prejudice, and poverty," Welby warned.

"In the last few years, they have been slaughtered by so-called Islamic State, and in many countries they find themselves squeezed between the upper and lower millstones of pressure on them within society and of conflicts that afflict the region."

According to a new interim British report, Christians are the world's most persecuted religious group in the world.

The findings of the recently published overview, by Anglican Bishop of Truro the Right Rev. Philip Mounstephen, show the persecution of Christians has neared genocide levels in some parts of the world.

"Evidence shows not only the geographic spread of anti-Christian persecution but also its increasing severity," the Bishop wrote.

When will the ignorance stop?

The Islamic State invasion of Iraq in 2014 saw the displacement of more than 125,000 Christians from their homelands, but this event was far from unique.

Archbishop Warda warned Catholic charity Aid to the Church in Need that this was a very real problem.

“This was an exceptional situation, but it’s not an isolated one. It was part of the recurring cycle of violence in the Middle East over more than 1,400 years,” he said.

“With each successive cycle the number of Christians drops, till today we are at the point of extinction,” Warda said.

“Argue as you will, but extinction is coming, and then what will anyone say? That we were made extinct by a natural disaster, or gentle migration? That the ISIS attacks were unexpected, and that we were taken by surprise? That is what the media will say.”
