Elon Musk Working on 'Superhuman' Interface Connecting Human Brains to Computers
Tesla/Space-X/PayPal founder working on controversial new product

Billionaire business magnate Elon Musk is working on a "superhuman" new product that he says will create an interface between a computer and the human brain.
The leader in tech innovation, having founded PayPal, Tesla, and Space-X, Musk hopes to finally bridge the neurological gap between man and machine.
In a world where a sophisticated humanoid robot named Sophia was granted citizenship in Saudi Arabia in 2017, it's no surprise that soon someone would take that one step further.
Mr. Musk is attempting to blur that line considerably more with his new product, named Neuralink, which could connect your brain to a computer – essentially making you "superhuman."

Explaining the idea further on podcast Joe Rogan Experience (this was before he sparked up and sent meme creators into meltdown), Musk clarified that the concept is in its early stages but that an 'interesting' announcement should soon come:
"I think we’ll have something interesting to announce in a few months that’s better than anyone thinks is possible.
"Best case scenario, we effectively merge with AI.
"It will enable anyone who wants to have superhuman cognition.
"Anyone who wants.
"How much smarter are you with a phone or computer or without?
"You’re vastly smarter, actually.
"You can answer any question pretty much instantly.
"You can remember flawlessly.
"Your phone can remember videos [and] pictures perfectly.
"Your phone is already an extension of you.
"You’re already a cyborg.
"Most people don’t realize you’re already a cyborg.
"It’s just that the data rate, it’s slow, very slow.
"It’s like a tiny straw of information flow between your biological self and your digital self.
"We need to make that tiny straw like a giant river, a huge, high-bandwidth interface."

Sound apocalyptic?
If so, it might make you feel better to hear that the technology was initially developed with the aim of remedying brain diseases.
According to the Independent, Neuralink is also the name of a company Musk founded alongside eight other partners, which aimed to revolutionize neurotechnology.
The company has largely been silent up until now (with the exception of a controversial animal testing facility proposal), so the news at least gives some insight into Musk's vision.
He even waited until after the announcement to drink whiskey and smoke weed.
Maybe he's onto something after all...
